Actually we just had a week so we didn’t cross the Queensland border.
With our low budget rental car, borrowed equipment and a tent we started to cruise the streets of eastern OZ. Our path led us around 1500 kilometers from Brisbane up north the coast until Agnes Waters where we spent most of our trip. We didn’t want to drive the same way back so we decided to have a look at the Hinterland and smelled a little Outback air – smells mostly like dead kangaroo.
the typical view…you drive for 2 days straight and won’t see much else than endless roads that disappear somewhere far away in the horizon.
home sweet home in agnes waters, the most northern surf spot in Queensland. Less bushfires, more campfires and a funny hippie neighbour with a farting dog.
Carlo Sandblow at Rainbow Beach. The biggest sand dune in australia starting at the ocean, ending somewhere in the jungle quite a walk away. Of course, cheesy dune jumping pictures are a must.
the first living kangaroo we spotted. I almost crashed into it after sunset. No wonder that the first 20 Kangaroos we saw were dead ones along the road.
a small day hike around agnes waters with coconut breaks, rock climbing and pacific swim sessions.
the german rugby team posing at the deepwater national park.
bushfires seen from Carlo Sandblow.
sunset at the town of 1770. Captain Cook landed at the same beach when he first arrived in Australia. We celebrated this discovery with fish and chips for dinner at the beach
looking backwards doesn’t give you more surprises than looking forward. Chillax and wait for the next dead kangaroo.
the tide produces temporary art on the beach canvas.
loads of bushfires along the coast. nothing irregular because they appear every year and are necessary to refresh mother earth. Still quite spectacular to see it and walk through a field of ashes.
camping in the forest far away from civilization. No light pollution except for a full moon.
I don’t remember his name but he was quite a guy to remember. He was living most of his life alone and was staying on his own in the forest the 2 months before we camped on his ground. It was his 50th birthday so we had to celebrate with him although we didn’t understand much what he said in his hard slang. Unforgettable night.
my 2 travel mates Carsten and Cordula in the bushfire fields. Amazingly relaxed trip we had. Thanks for the good times.

To everyone who forgot to send me wishes for my 30th birthday: they’re still welcome, ha.
I decided to celebrate it with a party on small Perhentian island at the malaysian east coast. What I planned as a casual party turned out to be a one week birthday festival. Legendary, something to remember and propably the best birthday ever. Thanks to Norman who joined me and all the other freaks I met on Perhentian. This is so going in my book…
Coral Bay on Perhentian island. Looks even more beautiful in reality.
