Shanghai Fog
5th floor view from captain hostel – click to enlarge

Almost a week I spend my time now in Shanghai.

There’s a lot to discover and I already feel like I sucked experiences like I usually do in half a year back home. Back home? What’s home? I don’t know where I’m heading after Shanghai or where I settle down once. I don’t know for how long I am doing this. If I don’t find any sponsors, it could be done soon.

But that’s  nothing to think about now. I moved from the hostel to an appartment yesterday which is only 50€  more per month than the 7-bed-dorm-room at captain hostel.

And tomorrow I have THE MEETING! There might be a job for me…
More about that after I’ve been there.

In the meantime you can read the first season of my new series NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE. It will be updated once in a while.

If you feel like contacting me, DON’T USE ANY COMMUNITY THING MESSAGING. Can’t say it often enough. I already got two of them the last week.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE #Season I

.Arriving at the airport makes you realize that smoking is permitted everywhere.

.You can get good food from 1€ – 200€ ( same size ).

.the most used word in hostels on a thursday is clubbing.

.Shanghai is an international place. The usual douches that dance in front of the DJ’s pulpit differ in citizenship like they do at a UN conference.

.Most of the foreigners speak chinese. In my experience, 2 out of 10 don’t speak mandarin or a several dialect. I belong to this 20%.

.The first crash of a pedestrian should be with a bike. Motorbikes, cars and busses are advanced – maybe worth a try after a month.

.Chinese people in Shanghai don’t dress more fancy than in other asian countries.

.It’s really true, that facebook is blocked in China. As well as youtube, twitter, the New York times and some more.

.90% of Chinese people in Shanghai speak more or less NO ENGLISH AT ALL.

.Shanghai is beautiful

.Shanghai is ugly

.The sidewalk you went home last night is, with the utmost probability, a hole today.

.The EXPO mascot looks like an ad for toothpaste.

.Staying with 7 Koreans in a dorm is awesome. After you came home from a night of clubbing, noisy as you are after a couple of drinks, they’re still friendly to you the next morning.

.Guys who sneaky put white stuff on your shoe while passing them, want to clean your shoes. They really want to – for at least 200m of fast walking.

.The “sssst…ashiiiiiishhh”-guys are in Shanghai too.

.And not to be forgotten the “Lady, Lady…want a Lady?”-guys

.Crossing a road can take up to 5 minutes. I f you don’t behave like a Shanghainese you either never gonna make it or you get ki….naaa, it’s not that hard.

.Eat as loud as you can and there is bound to be appreciating nod. Burp, and you got company.

…more of that in #Season II

Twothousandandfourty … thats the time here. And Febuary First is the date. Place Switzerland. Didn´t make it as far as you BUT your blog rocks and its great to read whats going on in the eastern hemisphere. Keep it up and keep your head up! Way to go. And your fingers on the keyboard. Push the button, don´t push the button.
Me – Julia – was in Hamburg today. After 13 years the Alster is frozen again – frozen Alsterwasser so to say. And great white superpowder snow in the swiss Alps. Thats news from “home” – wherever that may be.
    We keep our fingers x-ed.
Best wishes to the fantastic atom bomb superhero nightmare.
